 Biography
Andrew Kania is the Member of Parliament for Brampton West. Elected in 2008, Mr. Kania is currently a member of the Standing Committee on Public Safety and National Security; the Liaison Committee, which has a supervisory role over all parliamentary committees; and also the House Joint Chair of the Standing Joint Committee for the Scrutiny of Regulations.

He is a respected member of the local legal community, as Senior Counsel at Kania Lawyers. Mr. Kania is also the former elected Secretary of the Ontario Bar Association, which represents more than 17,000 lawyers. He is also a past instructor of law at the Bar Admission Course at the Law Society of Upper Canada.  In addition, Mr. Kania is a dynamic member of the community, and is involved in numerous local and charitable organizations.

Mr. Kania has long been politically active, acting as National Outreach Director for Michael Ignatieff’s 2008 Leadership Campaign. He was also the Outreach Director and Ontario Co-Chair for Stéphane Dion’s 2006 leadership campaign, and Ontario Co-Chair for the 2003 leadership campaign of former Deputy Prime Minister John Manley. He has been involved with the Liberal Party at a national level, as Special Advisor on Outreach for the National Election Readiness Committee. He has also served at the community level, as Vice-President of the Brampton West Federal Liberal Association.

Mr. Kania is married and has two children. He received his first law degree from the University of Toronto and then traveled to England, where he completed his Master of Laws at Leicester, with Distinction. He was called to the Ontario Bar in 1991.
